Slifer opens telecom-centric consulting biz
Former MCI and Broadwing executive will help telecom companies pursuing federal business.
Drawing on his more than 30 years of telecommunications experience, former Broadwing Vice President Rick Slifer has launched a new consulting firm, Richard A. Slifer and Associates.
Slifer made the formal announcement Aug. 15 at the General Services Administration's Network Services conference in Chicago.
Slifer helped MCI win the FTS 2001 contract in the late 1990s. He left MCI in 2002.
His consulting firm will aid companies pursuing telecommunications business with the federal government, he said. However, his first clients are seeking more general contracting assistance, he said.
Slifer's departure from Broadwing comes about three months after Diana Gowen left the company to become senior vice president of government services at Qwest Communications International. Qwest is bidding on Networx, the 10-year telecom contract that will take up where FTS2001 leaves off. Broadwing executives had decided not to compete for the vehicle.
