Hackers get into government jobs site
Hackers get into USAJobs site; user IDs, passwords and phone numbers were illegally accessed.
The database that stores users’ information for the federal government’s jobs Web site, USAJobs, has been hacked. Some account data, including user IDs, passwords, e-mail addresses, names and phone numbers was taken, according to an alert posted on the site.
The Jan. 30 alert from Mary Volz-Peacock, USAJobs’ program director, said the information accessed does not include resumes, Social Security numbers or personal financial data. USAJobs is powered by the jobs Web site Monster.com.
On Jan. 23 Monster.com announced that its databases were breached.
"As a further precaution, we want to remind you that an e-mail address could be used to target ‘phishing’ e-mails,” the alert said, adding that USAJobs users may soon be asked to change the passwords they used to log onto the site.
"We would also recommend you proactively change your password yourself as an added precaution,” the alert says.
