Federal 100 winner: Vivek Kundra
Kundra found ways to make government work faster, more efficiently and more cheaply by improving technology policies and services.

Kundra created a wiki that increased the transparency of the District of Columbia's procurement processes. Officials say the effort has saved the city about $4 million since its launch in January 2008.
It was the most prominent of several projects Kundra has undertaken to make the city government more efficient.
“Vivek demonstrated what is possible in government technology,” said Lena Trudeau, program area director of strategic initiatives at the National Academy of Public Administration. “His actions, often using free or purely internal resources, have shown that innovation can enable government bureaucracy to respond flexibly and intelligently to challenges. Under Vivek’s leadership, D.C. has come to be regarded as a model of innovative action for the federal [information technology] community.”
President Barack Obama picked Kundra to be the federal chief information officer in early March.
