HUD joins Recovery Act mapping effort
HUD officials will upload data to a Web mapping tool about how and where Recovery Act dollars are spent.
Another department has joined the effort to track stimulus spending. The Housing and Urban Development department will upload information on its use of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dollars to a geospatial Web tool available to the public, according to HUD officials.
The Agriculture Department developed the Web tool, and launched it on President Barack Obama’s 100th day in office, according to the USDA. The Web tool has received more than 1.5 million hits since it was launched, according to USDA.
The tool allows the public to search and view HUD and USDA projects that are funded by the Recovery Act, according to a June 22 HUD announcement. Users can also see the total amount of Recovery Act funds going to each state and how many grants and/or contracts are being signed under a specific program. Users can search by agency, state or amount of money that is obligated to grantees.
The Recovery Act includes $13.61 billion for projects and programs administered by HUD, nearly 75 percent of which was allocated to state and local recipients eight days after President Obama signed the act into law, according to HUD.
The remaining 25 percent of funds will be awarded through a competitive grant process in the coming months.
