NASCIO joins open government effort
The state CIO organization will work with federal agencies to promote the development of data standards for state governments.
The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) will work with Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra and other federal officials to develop data standards to make state government information more easily accessible to the public, the association announced today.
The project will be modeled after Data.gov, the federal initiative to provide easier access to government data, according to the association. The Office of Management and Budget, and the General Services Administration will also participate in the project.
Under the project, the organizations intend to promote developing public data catalogs and adopting standard naming conventions and metadata standards.
In a conference call on June 18 with state CIOs, Kundra said the federal government wants to work with state and local governments to turn President Barack Obama’s open-government initiatives into a national movement, according to NASCIO.
