State.gov gets a makeover

The State Department today unveiled a redesign of its official Web site that the department hopes to use to engage people in an ongoing dialogue on foreign policy.

The State Department has redesigned its official Web site and blog, DipNote, as part of a “major overhaul of www.state.gov,” the department said today.

The goal of the simplified design is to present State more transparently, effectively communicate the mission of the department, and  increasingly engage audiences in an ongoing dialogue about foreign policy issues, State said in a statement announcing the redesign.

According to State, updated features include:

  • Real-time news on Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s efforts and priorities of the department.
  • Inclusion of State’s presence on official department social networking sites such as DipNote, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Better searchability.
  • A new layout for the Web site with improved content visibility.
  • Additional features on DipNote where visitors can search for posts by topic.
