As Congress looks to make deep cuts in the budget, the federal government is moving to cut down on its use of paper to help agencies where it really matters: in the wallet.

By moving toward an electronic world, agencies can expect to cultivate millions of dollars in savings over the next five years, the Federal Times reports.

The Treasury Department would see some of the larger gains, saving about $524 million over five years by reducing all paper transactions such as issuing paper checks, the article states.
