Federal 100: Margie Graves

Margie Graves
Deputy CIO
Homeland Security Department

The work: Driving data center consolidation and the transition to cloud computing at DHS.

The impact: Under Graves’ leadership, DHS had consolidated nine of its 43 primary data center sites by the end of 2011, which helped the agency win congressional approval for $75 million in the fiscal 2012 budget to continue its consolidation efforts.

The nuts and bolts: Graves has been a steadfast leader in breaking down the cultural and political barriers to data center consolidation. She collaborated with eight operational components of DHS to mitigate transition issues and encouraged them to move to a private cloud model at the same time. Her efforts have helped make DHS a leader in data center consolidation.
