GSA goes big with big data

USASpending.gov provides data sets and tools.

The General Services Administration’s USASpending.gov is providing a prominent example of big data in the government, reports Rutrell Yasin at Government Computer News.

The USASpending.gov site provides a one-stop destination for the public to track and analyze federal spending information, including grants, contracts, direct loans and payments. The site is vital for delivering transparency on government activities to the public, Yasin writes.

By using the GCE Big Data and Analytics Cloud, GSA has made the site a scalable big data framework for storing and managing data, and provides a toolset for performing search and analysis on that data.
