NASA logs Web services savings

A switch to Web services for cloud-based infrastructure is paying off.

NASA is saving nearly $1 million a year after shifting to Amazon Web Services for cloud-based enterprise infrastructure, reports Rutrell Yasin in Government Computer News.

Citing a blog post by NASA CIO Linda Cureton, Yasin writes that the move was part of an ongoing effort to improve NASA's IT strategy.

“This cloud-based model supports a wide variety of Web applications and sites using an interoperable, standards-based and secure environment while providing almost a million dollars in cost savings each year,” Cureton wrote.
