What: "Top 10 Mobile Trends for 2015," by DMI.

Why: According to Google CEO Larry Page, "We are no longer living in a mobile-first world, we are in a mobile-only world." DMI's predictions for the future of mobile technology seem to endorse that sentiment. The firm surveyed analysts and experts from Apple, Google, Gartner, Forrester, Facebook, Microsoft and other companies in the retail, finance, automotive, health care, construction and technology fields, to come up with its predictions for 2015.

Among the highlights cited by DMI were:

  • Organizations need to rethink their app efforts to focus more on design and data-powered solutions to encourage “mobile first” techniques.
  • The Internet of Things is changing the capabilities of smart phones, and organizations should consider the possibilities of using a smart phone to leverage IoT to create new revenue streams and increase efficiencies.
  • Organizations that rely on online sales need to evaluate their mobile presence. In 2014, mobile devices made up only about 15-20 percent of all transactions -- DMI said this is because mobile-friendly sites and apps were not designed for mobile from the beginning.
  • Following a year when larger phones like the iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Note and Nexus 5 debuted, DMI said 2015 will be the year for the breakthrough of “phablets,” creating the need for a major readjustment for developers.

Verbatim: "Regulation will still be a barrier in health care but legislators will be working closely with the industry. There is also currently a large gap between consumer technology hypes and what doctors want. Doctors are generally questioning the usefulness of data and to what extent apps can really change behavior."
