CBP looks to consolidate data
Customs and Border Protection is looking to unify its sprawling data center footprint under a single contract.
WHAT: A Customs and Border Protection request for proposals to unify the agency's sprawling data footprint under a single support services contract.
WHY: CBP is looking to consolidate its dispersed data operations and support contracts. The agency put out a RFP May 11, with an eye to making a single source award by Aug. 31.
CBP is looking for a vendor to take charge of its overall IT infrastructure, to create a modernization strategy and oversee the transition to a cloud-based computing environment.
Currently, CPB contracts with CSRA, IBM, Vencore, Presidio and Mythics for data support services. The move to shift to a single support contract was the subject of preliminary contracting activity and back-and-forth with vendors in March and April of this year.
The RFP was drawn up in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security's Procurement Innovation Lab, which experiments with non-traditional purchasing techniques to both accelerate the process and make it more efficient.
Ultimately, the RFP said the single award contractor will provide support services for all CBP divisions in Washington and its regional locations and data centers.
