Telecommuting incentive sought
A Virginia congressman has asked the president to sign a new executive order to expand the use of telecommuting for federal workers in the Washington, D.C., area
Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) asked President Clinton to issue a new executive
order that would expand the use of telecommuting for federal workers in
the Washington, D.C., area.
In a letter sent April 27, Wolf said he was "disappointed" that the telecommuting
provision was stripped from the executive order that the president signed
April 22.
The executive order supports increased transit benefits to federal employees
in an effort to reduce traffic congestion, but did not include the telecommuting
provision that was in the original draft.
"Stripping telecommuting from the executive order is detrimental to public
safety, public health, the environment and the quality of life for all who
live and work in the Washington metropolitan area," Wolf said in the letter.
He asked the president to issue a new order that would include the telecommuting
option.
