GSA opens mid-Atlantic feds to Verizon
Now the Baby Bell can sell local communications to agencies in Philadelphia and 11 other cities.
The General Services Administration has expanded Verizon Communications' ability to offer local communications services to federal agencies in the mid-Atlantic region. The change, in the form of two contract modifications, opens a potential revenue stream of more than $330 million to the company.
The first modification, awarded under the crossover provisions of the Metropolitan Area Acquisition (MAA) program, allows Verizon to offer the services in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The second enables the company to offer similar services in 11 additional cities in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
"GSA's actions acknowledge Verizon's long-standing service to the federal government and our success in the MAA initiative," said Shelley Murphy, head of federal sales for Verizon Enterprise Solutions Group, in a statement. "We are committed to providing government agencies with basic and advanced communications that are cost-competitive, supported by round-the-clock customer service and backed by the integrity, financial stability and reliability of the leading U.S. communications company."
