AT&T wins IRS work

The Internal Revenue Service has chosen AT&T Government Solutions to design, implement and manage an advanced network at IRS sites nationwide.

The contract is for five years and could be worth more than $54 million, according to AT&T officials. Called the Enterprise Remote Access Project, the network is based on a managed virtual private network that will replace a mix of older hardware and software platforms. It will allow remote IRS offices to connect to applications and resources stored in centralized data centers.

The network will help IRS officials support the increasing number of employees who work off-site, whether from home, from companies where they are conducting audits or elsewhere, according to AT&T officials

"The IRS is one of the nation's largest civilian government agencies, and it deals with more Americans than any other institution, public or private," said Lou Addeo, president of AT&T Government Solutions, in a statement. "Its employees handle incredibly sensitive financial information that touches virtually every American, so AT&T's ability to deliver a highly secure network integration solution was key to this win."
