AmeriVault gets Connected for e-mail archives

AmeriVault Corp. has partnered with storage software company Connected Corp. to develop an e-mail archiving solution intended to help organizations reduce their e-mail server volumes and storage requirements.

E-mail users worldwide send about 31 billion e-mails daily, and experts expect that volume to double by 2006, said Bud Stoddard, AmeriVault's president and chief executive officer. Organizations will be expected to securely store increasing amounts of e-mail to comply with data-protection rules.

The AmeriVault/Connected product provides a turnkey, outsourced solution that could meet many compliance challenges, he said.

Users simply install software on an e-mail server, and the ArchiveStore/EM solution immediately begins to deliver compliance and management functions for messages. It also provides automated delivery of archived e-mail to secure off-site locations.

A policy enforcement engine scans every e-mail message based on parameters set by information technology administrators.

ArchiveStore/EM also creates audit trails that allow administrators to track changes to e-mails, such as when messages were stored, accessed, retrieved or modified.

Via complex search capabilities, authorized users have secure access to e-mails they send and receive or messages copied through Web browsers or e-mail clients.

AmeriVault, the online backup and recovery side of the partnership, claims ArchiveStore/EM can reduce e-mail server volumes by 60 percent to 90 percent.

ArchiveStore/EM will be available within the next month and will be priced according to stored e-mail volumes, Amerivault said.
