Sun's McNealy to focus on e-government

Dressed in a hockey jersey and shooting pucks into the audience, Sun Microsystems chairman Scott McNealy said “the biggest [business] opportunity today is in e-government.”

McNealy, who recently stepped down as Sun’s CEO, is now the self-appointed head of Sun Federal Systems. He said today he expects to be spending a lot of time in Washington, D.C., where he wants to be involved in “migrating the old world to the new.”

McNealy said the federal government needs to rid itself of a best-of-breed mentality and overcome resistance to phasing out old architectures. He said he doesn't envy the public sector’s purchasing process and acknowledged that his sales efforts will not be pain-free.

McNealy was in Washington to unveil Sun’s new line of servers.
