Verizon to continue as USPS' managed network provider
The Postal Service awarded Verizon a two-year extension to its current contract, with options that could carry the deal into 2012.
The U.S. Postal Service has awarded Verizon Business a two-year extension of its Managed Network Services contract. The contract was to expire March 23, 2008.
The new award includes two one-year optional renewals that could ultimately extend the arrangement into 2012.
“Verizon Business’ expertise and technology are helping the Postal Service serve its customers, whether they are buying stamps or tracking a package online for delivery,” said Jerry Edgerton, group president for Verizon Federal, an organization within Verizon Business.
Verizon Business will continue to provide USPS with managed network services and operate a dedicated network operations center in Cary, N.C. In addition, the company will upgrade circuit speeds and manage local-area network switches.
