Astronaut sends Tweets from space
An Army officer is the first to post Twitter feeds from the International Space Station, NASA notes.
NASA astronaut Tim Kopra is the first crew member of the International Space Station to use Twitter to discuss living and working in orbit, according to the space agency.
Kopra, an Army colonel, sent his first tweet Aug. 4 and sent another one today. He tried to take a picture of Albuquerque, N.M., from a space station window, but he was not quick enough, according to today’s tweet.
“Still amazed @ how fast we travel frm Baja Peninsula 2 Canada,” he wrote.
Kopra’s Twitter name is @Astro_Tim. He joined the space shuttle Endeavor's crew July 17.
Kopra plans to send regular Twitter messages about what it is like to be a flight engineer in space, and he will answer questions submitted on the Army's Web site, NASA said.
This is Kopra's first space flight. He completed his first spacewalk July 18, according to NASA.
Earlier this year, NASA astronaut Mike Massimino used Twitter to chronicle his training for the May 2009 space shuttle Atlantis mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope, according to NASA.
