Expert Dialogue: Headed for the Cloud

Ask Chris Kemp, NASA's chief technology officer, about what's next in cloud computing.

Nextgov is pleased to announce the latest in our series of Expert Dialogues.

Expert Dialogues is your chance to engage in conversations with leading practitioners and observers on key issues surrounding the government's use and implementation of information technology. In each dialogue, we take your questions for a week, forward them to an expert, then publish the responses. All the while, you can continue the conversation in our discussion forums.

Our latest dialogue is on the topic of cloud computing, which is currently all the rage in government. Cloud computing opens up the tantalizing possibility of saving both money and energy by shifting IT services to shared platforms accessed remotely via the Internet. That's why it has become a key Obama administration imperative. But it also raises questions about cost, security of data and other issues.

If you're looking for answers, this dialogue gives you the chance to ask someone who's been in the trenches of a large-scale cloud initiative in the federal sphere: Chris Kemp, chief technology officer for information technology at NASA, who spearheaded the development of Nebula, NASA's cloud platform.

Enter your questions during the week of Nov. 15-19, then come back on Nov. 29 to see his responses.
