NGA posts Y2K primer for governors

The National Governors Association has added to its World Wide Web site a primer on economic and liability issues related to state Year 2000 preparedness. The primer is available at www.nga.org.

"Governors should consider how to minimize the impact on their state's private sector," according to the document. "Although the U.S. is generally seen as well ahead of the rest of the world in addressing the Y2K problem, the costs will still be felt in the economy as resources are diverted to deal with the date change and as disruptions to business occur."

"What Governors Need to Know About Y2K" also notes that public concern will mount in the wake of increasing coverage of Y2K in the mass media, culminating with a Y2K disaster movie planned for release in fall 1999.
