Anteon acquires Sigcom division

Anteon Corp. announced July 23 that it has acquired the Training Systems Division of Sigcom Inc., a purchase that should boost the company's training and simulation products for the Defense Department and other government agencies.

The division provides simulation systems to the Army, the Navy SEALs, the FBI, police SWAT teams, British special forces units and NATO. The division specializes in Military Operations on Urban Terrain (MOUT) sites, which are used to train military troops in city combat. The division has recently been awarded contracts valued at more than $25 million to provide seven new MOUT facilities during the next two years.

"There is an increasing need for defense agencies to use simulation and mock testing facilities as a way to provide more cost-effective training," Joseph Kampf, Anteon's president and chief executive officer, said in a release. "We have significantly enhanced Anteon's capability to support these efforts, including those involving fully integrated range and instrumentation systems."

Kampf added that this is the company's fifth acquisition in the past four years and is the result of a "systematic process in selecting highly technical organizations that are compatible with the culture and strategic vision of Anteon."

The division will be integrated into Anteon's Information Systems Group.
