Richard Brown has been fired as EDS chief executive officer and replaced by Michael Jordan, former CEO of CBS Corp. Jeffrey Heller, who retired from EDS as vice chairman in 2002, will return as president and chief operating officer.

Charles McQueary was confirmed by the Senate March 19 to be undersecretary for science and technology at the Homeland Security Department.

Sens. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and Max Baucus (D-Mont.), and Reps. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and John Tanner (D-Tenn.) received the legislators of the year award from the Information Technology Industry Council last week.

The legislators were honored for their leadership in promoting and advancing top high technology-related legislative priorities in Congress in 2002.

Andy Bridge, a 20-year veteran of federal, state and local government sales, has rejoined Tarantella Inc. as director of government sales.

Tarantella is a supplier of secure application access software and seeks to expand the presence of its Tarantella Enterprise 3 software solution to the government sector.

Bridge recently served as the vice president of sales for the government division of Gelco, a privately held travel and expense management software developer. Prior to Gelco, Bridge was senior vice president of government operations at JetForm Corp. Years prior, Bridge was a sales executive with the Santa Cruz Operation Inc. (now Tarantella), where he helped establish the company's first federal sales department in Washington, D.C.

Manfred Hirt has been named vice president of business development at Sentel Corp., the company announced March 18.

Sentel provides engineering and software support to the Defense Department, NASA, the Federal Aviation Administration and other government agencies.

Hirt, who has more than 20 years of experience in marketing to government, is responsible for expanding Sentel's markets in chemical and biological detection and sensor integration. He is also expected to significantly advance the company's niche markets in electromagnetics, software and test engineering.

Before joining Sentel, Hirt worked with Digimarc Corp., directing government business development with DOD and the intelligence agencies.
