Interior provides online flight celebration
An Interior Web site provides information about activities nationwide.
The Interior Department continues its celebration of the centennial of the first powered flight with a Web site that provides information about activities nationwide.
In a joint effort with the National Park Service, an Interior agency, the site provides visitors with a list of travel destinations that mark the history of aviation and space exploration.
The site includes suggested lesson plans for use by teachers about the Wright brothers' first flight. It also features maps and video clips of the brothers, military jets and space rockets, and a compendium of the park service's National Register of Historic Places travel itineraries.
On Dec. 17, Interior Secretary Gale Norton joined President Bush at the site of the Wright brothers' historic flight, Kill Devil Hills, N.C., to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first flight.
Norton also took part in the dedication of a life-size statue at the service's Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills.
