Government job seekers can receive even more detailed information through e-mail alerts using the online job search portal.

Office of Personnel Management officials announced improvements to USAJobs this week, which is part of the Recruitment One-Stop e-government initiative. Job seekers who are registered with the search agent functionality on the USAJobs site can receive expanded notifications, including salary and closing date, OPM officials said.

By signing up online, job seekers can create up to five search agents to hunt for specific jobs and receive daily, weekly or monthly notices. Last month, OPM sent more than 3 million email notifications to USAJobs users, officials said, and the option is one of the site's most popular features.

"We constantly strive to make USAJOBS an easy-to-use job-seeking tool, and having input from customers who use it is invaluable," OPM Director Kay Coles James said in a statement.

James said officials are continually upgrading the system based on user feedback and customer-satisfaction surveys. For example, the site was recently rated using the American Customer Satisfaction Index E-Government Index, released this week by the University of Michigan with the American Society for Quality, CFI Group and ForeSee Results Inc. USAJobs scored a 76 out of 100, a 7 percent increase from the previous quarter. The site was one of the most improved sites rated using the survey.

Since the site's implementation in August 2003, users have visited the site more than 65 million times and created more than 600,000 online résumés, OPM officials said.

"An increased number of posted resumes is proof that USAJOBS is an effective tool for job seekers," James said.
