Michael Chertoff was sworn in as the new secretary of homeland security. Historian Allen Weinstein was confirmed as the nation's archivist.

George Newstrom, Virginia's former technology secretary, is joining Trusted Computer Solutions' advisory board. Newstrom currently serves as president and chief executive officer of WiSPER Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of IMC.

Mitzi Mead, former business development director at Mercury, a software company, moves to PricewaterhouseCoopers to manage business development efforts for its federal civilian practice. The company is rebuilding its federal sector after selling most of it to IBM two years ago.

Patrick Hughes, acting undersecretary of the Homeland Security Department's Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection Directorate, will retire March 15.

Frank O'Mara becomes vice president of training systems at Unitech, a company specializing in interactive training and simulation, homeland security, and technology solutions.

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers' Executive Committee elected Jim Dillon, CIO for the state of New York, to serve as its secretary/treasurer for the 2004-2005 program year.

White House CIO Carlos Solari has left the federal government to run his own company.

GTSI officials announced the promotion of three senior executives: Scot Edwards was named chief marketing officer and group vice president, Todd Leto is vice president for customer team sales, and Paul Liberty has become area vice president for corporate affairs and investor relations.
