Veterans refill prescriptions online
A new HealtheVet service makes it easier for veterans to refill prescription drugs without a trip to the drug store.
Veterans have refilled more than 70,000 prescriptions online with a new service that has been available for the last three months via the Internet, the Department of Veterans Affairs said today.
The online health system was added to the VA’s MyHealtheVet service last August, and it has been flourishing ever since, said VA secretary James Nicholson.
"VA's MyHealtheVet prescription refill service is proving to be extremely successful in providing America's veterans with fast, easy and secure access to their important medications," Nicholson said in a statement.
Nicholson said the service has become enormously popular, and the VA expects thousands of veterans to start taking advantage of it. When veterans order a prescription refill, the service routes the order to the VA’s computer system. One of the VA’s mail pharmacies fills the order and mails it to the veteran, eliminating a trip to the drug store.
By last month, more than 100,000 veterans had signed up to use MyHealtheVet at the VA's Web site, the VA said.
The electronic record also provides other health services to veterans, including tracking health conditions and medical histories.
