Lockheed Martin lands $2B contract
The company will build system to link military's satellites to its networks.
Lockheed Martin has won a 10-year, $2 billion contract to design and build the architecture and communications system that will link the military’s next generation of satellites to its networks.
The Transformational Satellite (TSAT) Missions Operations System (TMOS) will allow TSAT to connect to the Global Information Grid. The system will be operational in 2014, according to a Lockheed Martin statement.
The TMOS project will improve communications for military employees deployed in the field, said Stan Sloane, executive vice president for the Integrated Systems and Solutions business unit at Lockheed Martin.
TMOS will provide the network operations and management segments for TSAT. The system will provide secure, global, high-bandwidth communications that will give warfighters increased speed of command and operations on the battlefield.
The Defense Department awarded the contract to Lockheed Martin Jan. 27. The company’s team members include SAIC, Verizon, Northrop Grumman and Telcordia Technologies.
