FAS names General Supplies and Services leaders

James Williams, commissioner of the General Services Administration's Federal Acquisition Service, announced today the selection of Amanda Fredriksen as the first deputy assistant commissioner for General Supplies and Services (GSS), which combines three formerly distinct business lines under one management structure: Global Supply Operations, Non-IT Multiple Award Schedules and Personal Property Management.

Also, Williams appointed Jeffrey Thurston as the first director of supply operations for GSS. The two new positions are part of the Senior Executive Service.

The Supply Operations business line within GSS supports the federal community by providing mission-critical global supply-chain services and access to competitively priced products. Annual sales for the Office of Supply Operations are about $1 billion.

Fredriksen has been GSS acting deputy assistant commissioner and also director of GSS' Office of Business Management since last summer.

Thurston has been acting director of supply operations since last fall. Thurston began working in government in 1979 as a presidential management intern.
