FCW Insider: Tom Temin's new gig

So former GCN editor Tom Temin has a new gig, sharing anchor duties in the morning on Washington, DC radio station Federal News Radio 1050 AM. He will co-host the morning program, replacing Mike Causey, the former Washington Post federal columnist. Causey decided to step down from the morning duties, frankly, because he was tired of getting up at 5am. I can't imagine that.

Temin, of course, led GCN for some 15 years -- including hiring me way back when, something for which I will always be deeply appreciative. Temin left GCN when FCW's parent company, 1105 Media, purchased the PostNewsweek Tech Media properties, which included GCN, of course. He has done a column for Federal News Radio's Web site. He also appeared regularly on WFED.

We look forward to hearing him in the morning.

From WFED's release:

“The Federal Drive with Tom Temin and Jane Norris” will debut this fall. The announcement also comes as the station gears up to increase its signal power three and a half times to 3500 watts, solidifying its coverage area inside the Beltway.

Temin is a consultant with 30 years of experience in journalism, specializing in technology and government. Before starting his own consultancy, Tom was executive Vice President and editor-in-chief for Post Newsweek Tech Media, responsible for print and online editorial content for Washington Technology, Government Computer News, Government Leader, and Defense Systems. He is a frequent industry speaker and has recently been a contributor to WFED on-air and on-line with his weekly column, “Eye on IT,” for the station’s website, FederalNewsRadio.com.

“Tom is a great addition for us,” says Program Director Lisa Wolfe. “His expertise in the federal IT sector will really help deepen our knowledge base. He’s a very smart guy with a good sense of humor which will serve us well as he makes his foray into radio.”

Temin says, “I’ve got a lot to say, literally, about the federal IT market and community. And there are so many smart federal workers doing innovative programs. WFED, with its fast-growing audience and unique niche, is the right place to bring this all together. As a longtime print guy, I find it thrilling to join the immediacy of radio.”

Temin takes over the morning role formerly held by Mike Causey, a long-time veteran of federal news reporting. Causey will stay on with Federal News Radio in his senior correspondent role. He will continue to write his hugely popular column, “Mike Causey’s Federal Report,” as well as host his weekly call-in program, “Your Turn with Mike Causey” Wednesday mornings at 10.
