State gets new CIO

Susan Swart has taken over as the department's chief information officer.

The State Department has named Susan Swart as its new chief information officer, who heads the department’s Bureau of Information Resource Management.


The position opened when then-CIO James Van Derhoff retired in November.

Before her promotion, Swart was State's deputy CIO for business planning and customer service and the department's chief knowledge officer. She began as CIO Feb 8.


Swart is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. She received her undergraduate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and is also a graduate of the National War College.
