Senate confirms Leiter as NCTC director

Michael Leiter has been acting director of the National Counterterrorism Center since November 2007.

NCTC is the lead federal agency responsible for analysis and integration of terrorism intelligence and strategic planning.

The Senate has confirmed Michael Leiter as director of the National Counterterrorism Center. Leiter has been acting director of NCTC since November 2007, and he was its principal deputy director from February through November 2007.


The Senate approved his nomination June 10.


Before joining NCTC, Leiter served as deputy chief of staff at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, where he assisted in establishing the office and was involved in the development of national intelligence centers. Leiter holds a  degree from Harvard Law School.
