Here's how GHIT editor Paul McCloskey put it in an e-mail to all of us:

I wanted everyone to know that regretfully for us, but happily for her, Government Health IT senior editor Nancy Ferris has announced she is retiring at the end of this month.

Because she works from her home office, most of you probably don’t know Nancy well. That’s too bad because for the last three years we’ve had a real pro in our midst.

Nancy is winding up a three-decade-long career that featured stops as a reporter and editor at the venerable Washington Star newspaper, as managing editor of Government Computer News, as technology editor for Government Executive magazine, and editor-in-chief of PlanetGov.

So it’s been a privilege for me to have worked with her at her last stop before retirement. In talking about our beat and in (lightly) editing her work, she has taught me more about health care and IT – and how to cover it – than anyone else I know. She’s also a true expert in the economical use of words to make sense of the thorny policy stories that always crop up in government health IT.

I’m going to miss our collaboration and friendship. Please join me in wishing Nancy the best as she pursues her avocations – and continues to cultivate her garden.

Paul
