Letter: There is more in tech world than IT
A reader writes to say the purpose of a chief technology officer is to tie an agency's mission to relevant technologies.
Regarding "CTOs should embrace, not eclipse, CIOs"
In
my opinion, while there can be relationships between chief technology
officers and chief information officers, I believe the purpose of a CTO
is to tie all relevant technologies to the agency's mission. The
technology could be mechanical, medical equipment, biologic, etc. To
limit a CTO field of vision could be a tragic loss. I believe we are
becoming too myopic in viewing the world of technology; there is more
than information technology.
