Modernizing a portal that is used by more than 2.1 million military personnel is no easy task; saving $34 million in the process is even more impressive. Fritzsche saw that the upgrade of the Army Knowledge Online/Defense Knowledge Online (AKO/DKO) portal was carried out in a secure and nondisruptive manner.

Fritzsche was instrumental in all aspects of the upgrade, from picking the contractor to ensuring that the system remained available 99.954 percent of the time during the upgrade. As a result, Defense Department personnel can share information and collaborate on projects more easily than before, from anywhere in the world.

"Lt. Col. Fritzsche worked tirelessly ensuring that extremely successful upgrade to the AKO/DKO portal," said Gary Winkler, the Army's program executive officer for enterprise information systems.
