OMB nominee clears Senate committee
A Senate committee approved President Barack Obama's nominee for deputy director of OMB.
Heather Higginbottom, President Barack Obama's nominee to be deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, has been approved by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
The committee approved her by a vote of 6-4, sending the nomination to the full Senate for consideration. The committee also unanimously approved the nomination of Carolyn Lerner to lead the Office of Special Counsel.
Higginbottom is deputy director of the White House's Domestic Policy Council. She previously was policy director for Obama’s campaign and served as a top aide to Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) for several years. She also founded and directed the American Security Project think tank.
OMB Director Jacob Lew announced her nomination on Jan. 7.
