OPM builds how-to site for hiring managers
A new website will give the federal government one-stop access to recruitment resources such as multimedia learning tools and interactive forums with experts.
A new website announced May 5 by the Office of Personnel Management will provide the federal government with one-stop access to recruitment resources, such as multimedia learning tools and interactive forums with experts.
The site, USAJOBSRecruit.gov, has information on effective recruiting strategies and aims to encourage collaborative development of recruitment best practices, according to OPM. There are also live blogs and forums available where employees in charge of recruiting can discuss the problems they face and potential solutions.
OPM held focus groups of hiring managers and human resources practitioners to decide what to put on the site. “The No. 1 need expressed in the focus groups was for an online environment to discuss and share recruitment practices,” the agency said.

Specific features of the platform include guidance for human resources professionals, recruiters and hiring officials; a "school sorter" search tool for recruiters to find the right talent and skills; the Federal Service Ambassadors Program for federal employees interested in promoting government careers; and knowledge sharing in the areas of workforce planning, recruiting strategies, marketing and effectiveness.
“USAJOBSRecruit will spur collaboration and innovation, developing and elevating the best strategies for recruiting the best and brightest Americans into government service,” said OPM Director John Berry. “This new Web-based tool is a cost-effective, sustainable way for agencies to continually improve their recruiting for years to come.”
In a related move last month, OPM told agencies they will soon be required to submit reports every quarter showing how long it takes to hire employees.
