Senior Counselor to the Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications, Department of Homeland Security
Eric Goldstein leads strategic cybersecurity initiatives at the Department of Homeland Security and coordinates cybersecurity programs that cut across DHS and the federal government. Those responsibilities landed him a key role in internally coordinating DHS’ response to the massive Office of Personnel Management breach and communicating with Congress throughout the crisis.
In addition, he led DHS’ participation in designing and implementing President Barack Obama’s Cybersecurity National Action Plan, including developing a strategy to dramatically increase the number of incident response teams at the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center.
Goldstein’s work on the Cybersecurity National Action Plan has allowed DHS to enhance cybersecurity awareness and protections; protect privacy; maintain public safety, economic and national security; and empower Americans to take better control of their digital security.
He has also worked closely with critical infrastructure providers, identifying cybersecurity services available to the private sector and tailored information products and intelligence that they can use to protect and defend their own networks.
His managers say he goes out of his way to develop strategic messaging and reach out to stakeholders in his efforts to advance DHS’ cybersecurity mission. And they credit him for having a tremendous impact on the department’s cybersecurity mission by helping to align operational, outreach and technology development efforts into a coherent whole.
