SSA gets new CIO
Rajive Mathur is taking over for Rob Klopp as CIO of the Social Security Administration.
The Social Security Administration has tapped an IRS veteran to take over as CIO. Rajive Mathur is taking over as the agency's deputy commissioner for systems and CIO in June, according to an agency spokesperson.
Mathur comes from IRS, where he served as director of online services and was a leader in such public-facing tax products like Get Transcript, Direct Pay and Where's My Refund.
An SSA spokesperson said that Mathur "has significant expertise as a senior government and private sector executive driving large-scale transformation and handling highly complex and public-facing issues ... while driving innovation and change."
Federal News Radio was the first to report the news of Mathur's new role.
Mathur replaces Rob Klopp, who led an ambitious project to start the modernization of SSA's aging infrastructure. Klopp detailed his progress and observations in a nine-part series on the CIO Council website. A political appointee, Klopp left the agency in April, after staying on for the early months of the Trump administration.
SSA has a $1.6 billion IT budget for fiscal year 2017, according to the latest information on the federal IT Dashboard.
