Sonny Bhagowalia will no longer serve as CIO of the Treasury Department because he is moving to a new position in the department's Bureau of the Fiscal Service. Deputy CIO Eric Olson will take over as acting CIO.

Bhagowalia "has joined the leadership team at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service as a detailee to focus on a series of important cybersecurity and technology projects," a Treasury spokesperson said.

Bhagowalia had been Treasury's CIO since 2014. Previously, he served as Hawaii's CIO and as a technology and cybersecurity adviser to the governor of Hawaii. He also did a stint as deputy associate administrator at the General Services Administration for a little over year and held the CIO spot at the Interior Department from 2008 to 2010.

He won a Federal 100 award in 2010 for getting the initial version of Data.gov up on a cloud platform in two months, enabling people to search, evaluate and download 47 datasets. The site now has more than 196,000 federal, state and local datasets, representing about 10 million data resources.
