After just a year at his post, Brig. Gen. Patrick Burden will leave his commanding role as the Army's Program Executive Officer for Enterprise Information Systems to lead a command in Afghanistan.

The Army’s program executive officer for enterprise systems, Brig. Gen. Patrick Burden, will leave his post in the new year.

Burden is leaving to take a deputy commander position with the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan as part of U.S. Forces-Afghanistan’s Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. That role was previously held by Maj. Gen. Leon Thurgood, who will become director of the Missile Defense Agency in Redstone Arsenal, an Army PEO EIS spokesperson told FCW.

Burden was previously the deputy ammunition PEO and senior commander at the Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. Before then, Burden was the assistant deputy for acquisition and systems management for the assistant secretary of the Army.

The Army PEO EIS confirmed that Cherie Smith, who became EIS’ acting deputy PEO Oct. 23, will take over Burden’s role as PEO on an acting basis.

Command changes will take place Jan. 8.

Army PEO EIS has had its share of personnel shifts this year. She replaced Terry Watson, the former acting PEO and deputy PEO, who transitioned to Army G-1 in October.
