Eric Mill, who served as a senior advisor to the federal chief information officer within the Office of Management and Budget, will now manage GSA’s cloud security strategy.

The General Services Administration announced on Tuesday that Eric Mill will serve as the first executive director for cloud strategy in the agency’s Technology Transformation Services — or TTS.

Mill will manage GSA’s “cloud security strategy and help lead the implementation of government-wide technology initiatives,” the agency said in a news release. A GSA spokesperson told Nextgov/FCW that the position is a newly created role within the agency.

TTS oversees a range of technology and IT modernization initiatives within GSA, including the U.S. Digital Corps fellowship program and 18F, the agency’s digital consultancy that works with other federal agencies to help them acquire and deploy new technologies.

“TTS has a terrific set of teams, and it's a special time and place to make an impact across government,” Mill wrote in a LinkedIn post about his new role. “I'm quite excited to help elevate and accelerate their good work, and ultimately to make the government faster, safer, and more creative and productive in meeting its mission.”

Mill is headed to GSA from the Office of Management and Budget, where he served as a senior advisor to the federal chief information officer and focused on tech and cybersecurity policy. GSA’s announcement said Mill played “key roles in support of the Federal Zero Trust Strategy, the draft FedRAMP Modernization Memo and the Technology Modernization Fund” while with OMB.

This will be Mill’s second stint with GSA, after having previously served as a senior advisor for TTS, as a senior technology advisor for 18F and as deputy director of GSA’s single sign-on service, Login.gov.

He also worked in the private sector as the lead product manager for Chrome security at Google, and as a senior technology advisor to Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., as part of the Democratic staff of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee.
