FAA picks Raytheon for national airspace contract
A team led by Raytheon wins the contract to update situational awareness software for the national airspace system.
Raytheon Co. is developing an advanced situational awareness system for the national airspace, the company announced.
The Transportation Department’s Volpe National Transportation Systems Center awarded the contract to Raytheon to develop the NextGen Terminal Data Distribution System. The center supports the Federal Aviation Administration. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Raytheon Network Centric Systems will develop the new data distribution system to coordinate information sharing for disparate tracking systems. It will automate flight information and facilitate data exchange for improved situational awareness. With greater awareness of traffic, there will be improved capacity in the nation’s airspace.
Other team members are Lockheed Martin Corp.'s Transportation and Security Solutions Division, Intelligent Automation Corp. and Dnutch Associates.
