DOD cyber expert heads to DHS

Rosemary Wenchel will help bridge the cyber gap between DOD and DHS.

Longtime Defense Department official Rosemary Wenchel is joining the Homeland Security Department as deputy assistant secretary for cybersecurity coordination in the National Protection and Programs Directorate, according to a Federal News Radio report.

Prior to moving to DHS, Wenchel was director of cyber information operations and strategic studies in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. She has also served in a number of positions in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Navy.

In her new position, Wenchel is expected to coordinate joint cybersecurity efforts between DOD and DHS, and will oversee operations at the DHS-DOD Joint Coordination Element at Ft. Meade, Md.

She replaces Adm. Mike Brown, who retired in January.
