Hurd, Monaco, Rometty to chair think tank's new cyber group
A D.C.-based think tank is launching a new cybersecurity strategy group to be led by the chair of the House's key IT panel and an Obama administration security adviser.
A D.C.-based think tank is launching a new cybersecurity strategy branch that will be headed by the chair of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Information Technology and a top counterterrorism adviser to former President Barack Obama.
Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) and Lisa Monaco will — along with IBM President and CEO Ginni Rometty — serve as chairs of the Aspen Institute's Cyber Strategy Group, which will convene 35 cybersecurity experts in and out of government.
The stated goal of the new group is getting public- and private-sector perspectives on how to best address modern cybersecurity challenges.
"We are becoming more dependent on technologies each day, yet no comprehensive, nonpartisan group exists to keep up with the associated security implications across all sectors," said Hurd. "I look forward to working with my fellow chairs and members of the Aspen Cyber Strategy Group to help facilitate a productive discussion between CEO's, lawmakers and academics that leads to concrete, tangible cybersecurity solutions that bolster information security and safety, without stifling innovation."
