Former Treasury CIO Sanjeev "Sonny" Bhagowalia is now the top tech official at Customs and Border Protection.

CBP has named Bhagowalia deputy assistant commissioner, Information and Technology in its Office of Enterprise Services, the agency confirmed to FCW on April 23.

Valerie Isbell has been serving as the Acting Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Information and Technology, according to CBP.

Most recently, CBP said Bhagowalia served as the senior advisor on Technology and Cybersecurity, in the commissioner's office, at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, U.S. Department of Treasury.

Last July, Bhagowalia moved from the CIO post at the Treasury Department, where he had served since 2014, into a new position in the department's Bureau of the Fiscal Service.

Bhagowalia announced the new job in a LinkedIn post.

CBP welcomed Bhagowalia in a statement citing his more than 32 years of senior technical, managerial, and executive leadership experience in private industry, the U.S. government, and state government.

Bhagowalia has won several Fed 100 awards, most recently in 2010, for the launch of the cloud-based Data.gov website.
