Cloud Migration: Benefits and Challenges

Cloud systems can help government agencies improve efficiency, increase security, reduce costs and provide the opportunity to quickly adopt cutting edge technologies that require a flexible yet resilient network. However, there are many barriers to adoption including security requirements, obtaining guidance on deployment, certifying and accrediting vendors, ensuring data portability and interoperability, overcoming cultural barriers, and procuring services on a consumption or on-demand basis.

Wolf Tombe, Chief Technology Officer at the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has navigated CBP’s migration to the Cloud. As the nation’s largest law enforcement agency, the CBP’s mission relies on IT resources 24x7. With sequestration and resulting budget cuts, CBP is using Cloud based Shared Services to deliver mission capability a lower cost. However, not all Cloud Services are equal and CBP has learned a number of lessons along the way in terms of implementing and consuming Cloud capabilities.

In this webcast participants will learn about CBP’s journey to the Cloud, including their security requirements and other adoption challenges. Learn how Tombe and his team were able to not only save money, but also improve the IT resources.
