For a technology that is still trying to gain footing and widespread acceptance in the government arena, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) already has a fairly extensive history. After a tottering start some 10 years ago, issues like security and enterprise IT management continue to bring it to the forefront.
In a June 2017 study by the 1105 Public Sector Media Group, over 115 federal, state and local government respondents were surveyed on their views and their agency’s experiences with VDI. Topics included VDI adoption status, IT challenges and strategies, implementation benefits, and hosting and purchasing preferences.
The survey gathered that the future for VDI seems bright with the proportion of agency desktops serviced by VDI set to grow by 30% over the next two years and over half of agencies surveyed are increasing their VDI budget allocations for the next fiscal year. In this research report, we further break down the responses and unveil the findings of this recent survey.
