Camera Trained on Kentucky Development

Lexington, Ky., residents have the opportunity to keep an eye on a highly awaited construction project without leaving their homes.

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government has set up a feature on its World Wide Web site called the Courthouse Cam, which enables citizens to sneak a peak at the county's new courthouse as it is built.

People logging on to www.lfucg.com/chwebcam can view information about the construction as well as images that are updated every 10 minutes, 24 hours a day. A camera is located on the fourth floor of a nearby downtown building.

Susan Straub, press secretary for Lexington's mayor, said the camera is a way to keep residents in touch with the $62.5 million project the community considers historic.

"We don't build buildings like this everyday," Straub said. "We wanted citizens to be able to monitor the process of it."

Straub said the cost of the camera was the only expense for the Courthouse Cam. The site has had more than 5,000 hits since it was posted in July.
