AMS hooks up with govWorks

In the latest merger aimed at the public-sector market, two companies unite to showcase their e-government offerings

American Management Systems Inc. and govWorks Inc., announced Thursday that they were partnering to target the public sector, state and local government in particular.

AMS, a business and information technology consulting firm, along with govWorks, a government portal, will be offering governments a variety of opportunities to take their services online.

Now at govWorks' consumer-oriented portal, www.govworks.com, people can pay tickets, bills or taxes online, look for government jobs, exchange ideas with elected officials, find information, access government resources and participate in government auctions.

With the partnership, the companies' plan to blend those services with AMS' e-government solutions for finance and human resources, tax and revenue, human services, and motor vehicle and public safety.

The companies plan to initially focus on state and local governments in areas with populations greater than 100,000.

"We believe that the solutions offered through this alliance will help meet the needs of both government and its constituents by combining the strengths of two leading players in the e-government marketplace," Kaleil Isaza Tuzman, chairman and CEO of govWorks.com, said in a statement.
